Safety is the first and foremost concern that you have in the game of football. If you are not safe, you do not win, so practice good safety techniques in all aspects of your life. Use your equipment right and keep your helmet on your head.
Each play should be made as if it is the one to win the game. Going through the motions to play the game will leave you in the opponent’s dust. By going all out when you play, at the end of the season you can look back and say that you left it all out on the field with no regrets.
Work on kicking the football. Kicking is as important as throwing or tackling. Many football players don’t practice kicking. This causes issues with them not having the ability to get the football through uprights.
If you discover a new football trick that works great, don’t overuse it. It might work well, but your opponents will know it is coming.
A good work ethic should help you get more time on the field. There is no denying that some people are born with talent, but work is a driving force as well. Your coach would prefer a hardworking player over player that has natural abilities and is lazy.
The wealth of information about plays, strategies, skills and techniques for football, makes it seem impossible to learn everything. Even if you don’t consider yourself to be the fastest or strongest, you are able to out-think and outsmart an opponent when you know as much as you can regarding the game itself. Use your brain power to beat the other team even when they are more physically capable.
Shuttle runs can build your endurance, stamina and ability to stop quickly. This exercise requires you to run ten yards then tap the ground. Reverse your direction back towards the goal, and tap that as well. Try to do your physical maximum number of these every day and record the results to see your improvement over time.
Teamwork is crucial. Being a star player sometimes puts you ahead of the team, but you must realize that team always comes first. It takes the effort of the entire team to win games. You can’t be truly great until you support your team and know that wins must be won as a team.
Use practice for exercises that make your hips more flexible; place each cone about five yards from each other in a vertical pattern. Begin at one end, and zigzag through the cones as quickly as possible. Make sure your eyes stay up and you are aware as you run.
Always support your fellow teammates. In football, teamwork is of the essence. It’s as a team that you’ll win…or lose. You say “we” instead of “I”. Keeping this in mind, try to be supportive to your teammates by helping to build confidence in them. When you are confident as a group, you’ll find that you’ll win much more often!
Get a firm grip on what your abilities really are on the football field. If you apply too high, you won’t make the team. If you spend time playing at a lower level than your abilities, you won’t increase your skills.
Live and play the game with confidence. A confident player is one who gets far on the field and plays well. Approach football with confidence. Plus, you’ll put seeds of doubt in your opponents head. This will result in a psychological charge at game time.
Always work on building your endurance. If you’re able to run without needing to catch your breath, any team will love to have you. If you find yourself becoming out of breath, take deep breaths, regain your composure and get back in action.
When you try out for any team, it’s critical to be as physically fit as you can. All football workouts should begin by performing stretches that give you flexibility, then follow that up with cardio exercises. Weight lifting and cool down routines should follow.
Your mental training is something that must not be neglected. Concentrate on visualizing yourself in the play. It is a fact that practicing your moves in your head will help improve you game. Envision tackling the opposing player time and time again, and you’ll eventually be doing it in the game.
